Gio Ponti (1891-1979) is the Italian master of mid-century modern design.  Born in Milan, he started his career predominately in ceramics.  His influential design periodical Domus championed mass production and encouraged collaborations between fabricators and artisans, a trend very much at work today.  His elegant designs continue to delight the eye.
